Mr. Elmer E. Schneider, Jr. ’71 serves as the Chief of Police for the University Police department and is responsible for its oversight.
Schneider originally joined the department as a student worker/dispatcher in 1970. He worked his way up the organization first as a police officer then sergeant, criminal investigator, captain, and assistant chief and associate director.
He is the chair of the Security Awareness Committee and a member of Local Emergency Management Planning Committee, Campus Facilities Planning Committee – technical sub-committee, Brazos County Child Fatality Review Team, Critical Incident Response Team, Tailgating/Alcohol Task Force, FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, Brazos Valley Narcotics Task Force, Expressive Activity Committee, Behavioral Issues Committee, Special Situations Team, and the Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Council.
Schneider is the recipient of the 2007 Distinguished Former Student Award from the Texas A&M University Department of Agricultural Education; 1997 President’s Meritorious Service Award; and the 1994 President’s Exceptional Service Award from the Texas and New Mexico Association of College and University Police Departments. He is a graduate of Federal Bureau of Investigation National Police Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 1984. He is the Past President Brazos County Peace Officers’ Association, 1982, and a graduate of the Leadership Brazos Program, 2002.
